Age of Empires IV announced at last for PC after 12 years of last game

The long wait for Age of Empires fans is over. After 12 years from the last game of the iconic real-time strategy series, Microsoft is finally listening and Age of Empires 4 is on its way.

Microsoft announced the Age of Empires IV during Gamescom. Relic Entertainment, the developers behind Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, is the development team for Age of Empires 4. The game’s first announcement trailer shows a range of battles across historical ages, from Classical Greece to the Renaissance to American colonialism. Romans, Native Americans, British soldiers, and Japanese samurai feature within the trailer, but little else is known about the game so far.

“Relic Entertainment has a wealth of experience in creating high-quality RTS games, making them the ideal partner to develop Age of Empires 4,” Microsoft creative director Adam Isgreen wrote in an Xbox blog post. “We are thrilled to be working with them and can’t wait for fans to see their unique and exciting contribution to the Age of Empires franchise.”

More information will be released during this month according to Relic. Age of Empires 4 is currently slated for a PC release. A release date has not yet been announced, and it remains unclear if other platforms will receive a port. In other related news, the original trilogy is getting a remastered bundle for $20 on Windows Store October 19 with updated 4K graphics, new content and more. So look forward for that too.
