League of Legends and Fortnite top headlines as the decade comes to an end

With both the year and the current decade drawing to a close, we must go back and look at games that have made an impact in the video game and e-sports industry making it in the way we see  now, and according to numbers, both League of Legends and Fortnite have done this To the fullest

Today’s report comes from the famous TIME Magazine website, which had an article on the most impacting video games on our lives during the past decade, where both the Epic Games and Riot Games titles had a place in the list of ten best games, representing the field of esports in a list that included GTA V, Dark Souls, and Skyrim.

League of Legends has managed to create a wave that has echoed around the world since it came out in 2009, and there is no doubt that staying on every tongue after ten years is a clear indication of the magnificence of what Riot did when they presented us with the world of Runeterra with its beloved cast of characters via the now-famous MOBA gameplay mode, which got its reputation thanks to the two games LoL and Dota 2, with the latter also providing an undeniable impact.

Fortnite had a different story at the beginning, as it grew up as a defense against zombies game to transform later thanks to the Battle Royale mode borrowed from PUBG into one of the largest, if not the largest, game in history thanks to the relentless efforts of the Epic Games developers (in addition to the fact that the game is free) by continuously giving new and fun content over the past two years, Fortnite continues to be the biggest game currently with the introduction of Season 2 content which has caught all the attention in its unique presentation method.

Although esports fans might object to the article not including other games that have had the same impact in the competitive world as Dota and CS: GO, it is worth noting that TIME magazine’s list is for the most influential video games in general and not only on the competitive arena, According to the massive numbers of players for both League and Fortnite, there is no doubt that it looks fair, compared to the relatively smaller numbers of other esports titles.

Returning to the League of Legends, the MOBA giant achieved its best year in a long time in 2019, with its return to the top again via Twitch Live Broadcasting, to break new numbers, restoring its position in the first place, after revealing that it is the most watched game during the year with more than 990 million hours watched by fans, knocking out Fortnite which fell to second place this year.

Compared to 2018, Fortnite was watched for a huge number of hours exceeding 1 billion hours at the height of its popularity, with the help of the well-known player “Ninja” who hosted several popular characters such as Drake, Travis Scott and more to achieve a number of the most followed live broadcasts with one of them exceeding 600 thousand viewers at once.

The year 2019 witnessed the beginning of the decline in the popularity of the game via Twitch though, as the number of hours watched for Fortnite decreased by 28%, inevitably affected by the departure of “Ninja” to the competing Mixer site, in addition to the departure of a number of the game’s celebrities and others spending less time with it despite the introduction the first World Cup with the biggest prize ever in 2019, which was won by the newcomer “Bugha”.

On the other hand, League of Legends has had more and more success through new modes like TeamFight Tactics and other awaited games such as Legends of Runeterra, in addition to introducing LEC, LCK and LCS leagues to new challenges and the rise of strong unknowns to the top, as LoL ended its year crowning at an award ceremony The Game Awards as the best esports game of the year.

Whether you are a fan of this or that, everyone undoubtedly agrees that it was a wonderful year for the field of electronic sports in general with an expansion in global reach and increasing demand for his championships. 2020 looks interesting now, and we hardly wait to see what new surprises we will see in these beloved titles.
