
Kentucky’s University of Pikeville is offering scholarships for “League of Legends” players
With the growing recognition of e-Sports in various aspects of the the society, we saw an increase in the number of colleges that offer athlete scholarships for players of those competitive wide spread games and consider them just like real sports athletes. University of Pikeville recently jumped to the train in a move that will surely please gamers worldwide.
Eastern Kentucky’s Pikeville university is now offering scholarships to eSports professionals according to the media director Bruce Parsons. It will help attract both nationwide and international students who didn’t previously take this choice of college into account.
“It’s actually becoming a worldwide trend. This game is five on five competitive play. It takes skill, practice and a lot of teamwork.”
“They’ll have to have a certain GPA. We’ll look at them like student athletes. There will be practice time and video time when they have to study other teams for upcoming competitions,” he added.
The more recognition of e-Sports the better. It’s helping in changing the view that the community have towards gamers and their favorite hobby. As it’s time for everyone to know that these competitive play grounds aren’t to anyway lesser in required skill than other sports out there.
