PS Vita might be Sony’s last handheld console
With the huge spread of Smartphones gaming everywhere around the globe, it’s getting tougher to sell a system just for playing games. This might force Sony to stop developing any more handheld devices after the PS Vita if it continues.
In a recent interview with the Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida and when asked about whether or not we’ll see a PS Vita 2, Yoshida replied that the climate for such devices became “unhealthy” after gaming on the go became easy to do on smartphones.
“People have mobile phones and it’s so easy to play games on smartphones. And many games on smartphones are free, or free to start.
“I myself am a huge fan of PlayStation Vita and we worked really hard on designing every aspect. Touch-based games are fun – there are many games with really good design. But having sticks and buttons make things totally different. So I hope, like many of you, that this culture of playing portable games continues but the climate is not healthy for now because of the huge dominance of mobile gaming.”
Earlier this year we got to know that Sony decided to stop developing any first party games, leaving the PS Vita in the hands of third party and indie developers.
