Microsoft buys games physics engine Havok
Microsoft announced that it has now acquired the license to the famous games’ engine Havok from Intel, hoping to increase the power of its graphical tools and services like the upcoming Xbox One games.
Havok engine had been used in over 600 games including famous titles like Call of Duty, Dark Souls and Assassin’s Creed. The support of game developers will continue so they can make more special experiences, as well as innovating on the current tech and make it better.
“Havok is a fantastic addition to Microsoft’s existing tools and platform components for developers. [And] we will continue to innovate for the benefit of development partners. Part of this innovation will include building the most complete cloud service, which we’ve just started to show through games like Crackdown 3.”
We will be seeing the fruits of upcoming Microsoft technologies like DirectX 12 with Fable Legends this month and Crackdown 3 later next year.
