SEGA is looking into re-releasing the first two Shenmue games
With the huge success of Shenmue 3’s Kickstarter campaign after more then ten years of wait, looks like SEGA started to think about releasing the first two games again on modern consoles.
“Yes, we want to innovate and back smarthphones and virtual reality but our key purpose is to go back to what the brand used to stand for, I think the buzz around Shenmue 3 shows that people love our legacy,” he added, confirming to the site that Sega is indeed looking at ways to re-release the dormant franchise. Over the next few years, we want to use engaging content and marketing to remind the public why they fell in love with Sega in the first place.”
These were the words of the marketing director of SEGA’s Europe division in a recent interview, where he confirmed that SEGA is looking into ways to bring Shenmue 1&2 back and introduce them to the new generation of gamers.
No specific release date for Shenmue 3 yet, but the development process had already started and it’s expected to be finished in 2017 for PC and PS4.
