More than 77 thousand Steam accounts get hacked monthly
Valve recently introduced a new security options that doesn’t allow any trades to be made until 3 days have passed. While some users found this annoying yet Valve took the time to explain why it had to take this meassure.
Unless you have the two-factor authentication app activated on a second device, and have had it for seven days, you’ll have to wait three days for any goods you’ve traded away to be delivered. If you’re trading with a friend of one year or more, you’ll only have to wait one day. The reason for the new change is to prevent hackers from selling the digital goods and to give the support more time to track down the account and give it back.
“Enough money now moves around the system that stealing virtual Steam goods has become a real business for skilled hackers,” Valve wrote.
“Practically every active Steam account is now involved in the economy, via items or trading cards, with enough value to be worth a hacker’s time. Essentially all Steam accounts are now targets.”
The best safety meassures is to activate the authentication mobile app, as well as inserting your mobile number so you get a message in case of a breach.
