Steam service sued by French consumer association

Looks like Valve is in some sort of trouble in France, according to the new law suit it’s facing over the subscriber agreement the service provides to its customers.

The law suit was filled by UFC-Que Choisir. The organisation explained in its letter that Steam’s subscriber agreement contains clauses “detrimental to consumer interests.”

The organisation points at the fact that users cant resell their digital games, which is allowed in French law. Other clauses include how Valve does not offer responsibility when accounts get hacked and users’ personal info gets stolen, as well as how the company claims ownership of any user-created content uploaded to Steam.

Valve is reportedly using Luxembourg’s consumer law in all countries not taking into account each country’s different rules. This might be bound to change.

Will we have the ability to resell our games later on or will Valve when the case? let’s wait.
