ESL to honor Esports icons through Esports Hall of Fame

Honoring big names that contributed in a way or another in movies or sports is something we got used to. But apparently, the Hall of Fame trend will expand into Esports as well with Electronic Sports League’s introduction of this new celebration.

ESL announced yesterday that it’ll be holding its own Esports Hall of Fame to honor the icons of Esports and gaming legends who not everyone might know what they did to the industry.

“The Esports Hall of Fame is dedicated to preserving the rich history of competitive video games. Our goal is to honor the legacy and to tell the stories of the players and people who have made great contributions to esports.”

ESL won’t have a role in picking nominees. Instead, it’ll be a host of writers, commentators, hosts, and coaches who’ll be picking up names to be presented later in ESL’s big events starting with ESL One Cologne later this year.

The first group of nominees is to include Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and later people from other games like Starcraft and Dota and more. The only rule to get nominated is to have been retired for at least a year before announcing the hall of fame. This doesn’t necessary mean that legends are old people, as most professionals retire at the young age of 20s.
