Chinese giant Alibaba promises the largest Esports event

Alibaba is widely considered one of the most important names on the web. The Chinese ecommerce giant is worth $212 billion dollars as of the end of 2015. It’s not something new for the firm to do sport-related projects as it previously cooperated with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. However, today’s news are related to Ali Electronics Sports Division, the Esports division that was recently revealed.

Without hiding any of its plans, Alibaba announced a huge Esports event by the name of World Electronic Sports Games, which hopes to recapture the charm of the past World Cyber Games that was like an Olympics event to gamers until it closed down in 2014. Alibaba’s new direction will hopefully attract around 100 countries and regions from around the world where representing players compete in many titles such as Dota 2, CS: GO and StarCraft 2.

The prize pool is estimated at $5.5 million as a part of $15 million dollar investment for this event, which will kick off this April through December where the finals will be held. The event follows a strict set of rules and points to ensure a fair and healthy competition alongside  professional organizing.
