Pro players in France have always been in many troubles. The law doesn’t stand by them and there was no official recognition by the government of Esports, which made holding competitions a tough thing to pull. This is set to be changed thankfully with the creation of a national federation for these kinds of thing.
“Fédération France-Esport” or “association France-Esport,” will have the goal of organizing legal things for competitions, creating legal status for competitiors, taking care of television broadcast side and more. The federation is said to have tournament organizers, broadcasters, players and representatives of games publishers.
The federation will be officially revealed tomorrow at the French Ministry of Economy. An amendment was added to the Numeric Law yesterday saying that a Pro Esports gamer is “anyone with gainful employment for the performance of competitive video gaming activity in a legal relationship of subordination with an association or a company which is authorized by the Minister ‘chargé du numérique,’. The new law aims at adding special fixed-term contracts for Esports athletes among other things.
