Updates on the French eSports Federation revealed
We previously reported about the national Esports federation France is having, and now we’ve got some new updates to clarify the news a bit more.
Even though France eSports is officially established now, yet it seems that the whole thing is still far from being true. The new organization serves as the representative body of the government for Esports-related ordeals while the activity gets regulated. The organization also will be “partner of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee for all matters relating to the recognition of electronic sports as sport in itself.”
This sounds good and all, yet the organization doesn’t really have the power of a true federation yet.
Matthieu Dallon said in an interview with Remy Chanson that “I think culturally, France isn’t ready… Esports probably isn’t ready either, it will still evolve in the way we play it and how games are created. The first step is to show the maturity of the actors.”
The big goal right now is to separate Esports from Gambling in the French law as they’re both in the same zone for the Numeric Law. Professionals have been facing difficulties because of that and holding competition was always something tricky in France. Currently, the addition of Esports in the Numeric Law will be voted on in May 3, and if the law passes there’ll be more debates in the French Parliament to regulate Esports. If that happens, only then the French eSports federation will have the real power to make changes.
