EA boss wasn’t sure about the World War settings for Battlefield 1

If you’re still uncertain whether you like the World War 1 aspect of the upcoming game or not, you’re not alone. Apparently, even EA boss had his doubts about this time period in the new Battlefield game, but he quickly then saw DICE’s point of view.

One of the mistakes people make when thinking about World War is that they think it’s just “trench warfare”, even when that period had the most innovation in weapons prototypes. That’s what DICE are trying to capture to make the game fun to play as possible. When the team revealed their plans for Patrick Soderlund, he was a bit concerned himself at first.

“When the team presented the idea to me of World War I, I absolutely rejected it, I said World War I, it’s trench warfare; it can’t be fun to play. If you look at what other partners in the industry are doing, they’re going into sci-fi; we’ve had a lot of success in the modern military space. But we felt like there was a need for a change,” he said.

Battlefield 1 is coming October for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
