Street Fighter V breaks EVO records, Story mode finally here and more

A couple of big news for Street Fighter fans that will surely make their day.

Starting it all off with EVO, the fighting tournament is about to witness its biggest competition yet with a new record of over 5 THOUSAND entrants for Street Fighter V open tournament. That’s over 2 thousand more entrants than the last record set in EVO 2015 when 2.227 competitors registered for the tournament, a number that was already broken just four years after opening registration for EVO 2016.

Number of entrants isn’t the only record-breaker here, as the Street Fighter V upcoming tournament will also have the biggest prize pool in all of fighting games history with $100.000 on stakes that will be cut between Eight finalists, with the grand winner taking home half of that prize at $50.000 when the competition concludes July 17th in Las Vegas.

The other big news is that you’ll be able to watch Street Fighter right at your home on a national sports TV with ESPN’s deal in broadcasting the SFV final July 17th. We expect high viewership mainly because how simplistic fighting games are to enjoy unlike things like MOBAs for example.

Last but not least, the promised July update is finally here bringing in the free cinematic story mode for PC and PS4 with a download size of 16 GB. The update is two-parts one that includes “A Shadow Falls” original story while the other adds Balrog and Ibuki to the fighting game’s roster and more.

Street Fighter V is now on PC and PS4.
