Replay and Spectate features are coming to Overwatch but it won’t be soon
We have some good news and some bad news for Overwatch fans. The good news is that the much requested Replay and Spectate features are coming to the game, the bad news? Not anytime soon.
Game director Jeff Kaplan replied to a forum post about these features today, saying that both are on the schedule, but that the developers tabbed to work on them are finishing up other features first. Those include matchmaking improvement, high bandwidth server technology, and changes to Competitive Play mode ahead of Season 2.
“We’re as excited as you guys are for [a replay system and a spectate only feature],” Kaplan wrote. “We’re really hoping to get time on them.”
Overwatch already has a feature close to Replay and it’s called Play of the Game, however it’s limited to the best clip of the match and can’t be saved to be viewed later. As for spectating you can already spectate other people but only when you enter a full server, as there’s no Spectate Mode where you watch other people playing regardless of the server status like in League of Legends for example.
Overwatch is now available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Season 2 of Competitive Play is coming in September.
