World Esports Association officially forms a player council
World Esports Association has recently announced the formation of a players council with the intent of giving more power to the pro players themselves, and that’s through their representatives from the collaborating teams.
The council features a combination of players and couches and includes some of the most recognizable names in competitive gaming. Each team involved in the WESA partnership selected a representative to sit on the council while formr Fnatic coach Viktor “vuggo” Jendeby was unanimously voted chairman.
“I have maintained that transparency in everything that WESA is doing is critical to its success, and giving the players a seat at the table is an important step in fulfilling that promise,” WESA’s executive chairman Ken Hershman said of the creation of the council. “I am confident that under the leadership of Viktor, the players will now be able to actively contribute to helping esports continue to develop.”
WESA was formed on May 13 as a partnership between ESL and esports organizations Fnatic, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Team EnVyUs, Virtus.pro, Natus Vincere, FaZe Clan, G2 Esports and mousesports. It’s goal is to “bring all esports stakeholders – players, teams, organizers and broadcasters – to the discussion table in order to bring much needed structure, predictable schedules and transparency to the scene.” FaZe Clan has since backed out of the association.
The members of the council are:
• Jérôme “NiaK” Sudries (G2 Esports)
• Chris “chrisJ” De Jong (mousesports)
• Sergey “starix” Ishchuk (Natus Vincere)
• Adam “friberg” Friberg (Ninjas in Pyjamas)
• Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas (Virtus.Pro)
• Nathan “NBK” Schmitt (Team EnVyUs)
• Viktor “vuggo” Jendeby (Fnatic)
