Football star Zlatan Ibrahimovic investing in Esports?
The Swedish football star Zlatan Ibrahimovic might be the next big name in tradition sport to get behind the idea of Esports, according to many media reports about him investing in it
Manchester United’s player is apparently a part of the group of investors of “Challengermode”, which is a Swedish Esports organization founded in 2014 to allow gamers to compete in CS: GO and League of Legends in exchange for prize money. Ibrahimovic is one of the names of the investors who pledged $1.3 million dollars including other people like internet entrepreneurs Jonas Nordlander and Filip Engelbert.
It’s the soccer star’s second investment in gaming technology. Ibrahimovic had acquired a 12.5 percent stake in game development studio Ice Cube in September 2016. By investing in an esports-related company Ibrahimovic follows in the steps of his teenage idol Ronaldo, who acquired a 50 percent stake of Brazilian esports club CNB e-Sports last January.
