After more than 10 years of absence… new I.G.I game is in development

Fourteen years ago since we last saw that name on a CD in our local games shop, a name that everyone used to know and love holding a special place in PC gamers hearts for years. Now, it looks like it’s coming back. A new Project IGI game, folks.

Project IGI: I’m Going In used to be a tactical FPS game that presented many interesting ideas to the mix. The game released in 2000 and got its first sequel in 2003 from developers Innerloop Studios and published by Eidos Interactive. Now, 14 years later, Artplant studio is announcing the return of the franchise.

Jack K. Wulff, head of Artplant which consists of former members of Innerloop has officially announced that a new IGI is in development, but he didn’t reveal much else saying that “there isn’t much to announce at this point, other than the game being called IGI – We’re Going In”. We expect that the “we” in the title means some sort of a co-op campaign, but don’t take our word for it just yet.

Protagonist of the former two games David Jones is also returning in IGI 3 campaign according to a Tweet by Artplant. Sadly, we won’t be able to refresh our memories of him with a remake of some sort, as Square Enix now holds the full rights to the previous games after buying Eidos Montreal. Still, just having a new game is good enough for now.

Will IGI 3 give us a fresh of breath air like the previous two games did? Likely not, as many titles have perfected the tactical FPS genre over the years. However, we’re just happy the franchise is returning once more. No platforms or release date has been shared, so we’ll have to wait a bit more for those details.
