Dubai is on its way to become the digital capital of eSports with big new announcement

Official announcement made by Government of Dubai Media Office and TECOM Group today revealed big plans for esports business in the region starting with ‘Dubai X Stadium’, a brand new venue in the city dedicated to hosting Esports events from around the world.

Development as a part of the Dubai 10X initiative, the venue aims to make Dubai the “global capital” for Esports events according to a multimedia presentation uploaded on the Dubai Media Office official Twitter page, although no further details were given on how exactly the initiative will be carried out. With the development, the companies hope to include video gaming as an important addition to the country’s knowledge/media-based economy, generating $1.4bn in revenue from hosting Esports events by 2020, increase tourism, and grow the video game business in the region by 37 per cent.

Despite being an overwhelmingly good news for gamers in the region, it also comes off as a bit confusing considering that popular voice chat software like Discord and Team Speak are banned in the country, which are a key components in Esport events. That being said, these future plans are surely going to make things go smoother when it comes to gamers requests if the government is serious about what it’s preaching.

Meanwhile, the region’s first female eSports organization RES Gaming was also established in Dubai few weeks ago.
