Winter Royale is Epic’s upcoming big tournament for Fortnite
With the successful Fortnite Fall Skirmish tournament now behind our backs, in which the famous player “Tfue” won an award of more than $400,000, talks have began on the next step of the game competitive scene with Fortnite Winter Royale
Epic Games, which is responsible for the development of the game announced the new event yesterday, which will bring a number of new changes to the competition system. Several future plans for the Fortnite esports were unveiled, beginning with the upgrade of the online competition system to v6.30. Players will now be correctly match-made with others with same points after some mistakes happened in the past. This will make the tournament more difficult as players continue to advance.
“Please note that players who have a lot of points have to wait for more than 5 minutes to find a suitable match. We will continue to look for the best fit to competition by modifying the matchmaking process over time” Said Epic talks on the new competitive event changes
Other problems, such as showing the wrong total points after the end of the game, have been fixed, in addition to a problem that caused the points to appear slowly. The company also hopes to be able to provide a system that shows the points in real time later. As for new additions, there is a new tab called “Pop-Up Cups” in the Events section. This tab contains online tournaments with different settings that are somewhat similar to the competitive LTM games, and this will allow Epic to test the match settings using this tool.
As for Winter Royale event itself, the tournament will come with a total prize of $1 million and will be divided into two parts: the playoffs and then the finals. With the help of the updated online tournament system, Epic will test a program that emulates the World Cup qualifiers. All the settings for Winter Royale will match the Pop-Up Cup that we talked about.
Unfortunately, Winter Royale will be limited to North America and Europe, where the best performers will be chosen and invited to the finals, but that does not mean that Epic is not considering expanding internationally. In fact, the intention of the company to establish events for other regions “in the near future” was mentioned, so we will be waiting.
