England establishes its first eSports national team to represent it at FIFA competitions
With the blessing of the Football Association of England and in partnership with ESL, it seems that we will be seeing England’s first national eSports team very soon, bringing together some of the best FIFA players in the world
The national e-team, named accordingly eLions, will represent England in upcoming competitions starting with the newly announced FIFA eNations Cup, which is set to place 16 international teams against each other. In preparation for this confrontation, the best English players will be gathered under eLions with online qualifiers.
The qualifiers will take place on March 9th and 10th, with the four finalists going to the live finals in London on the 14th of this month.
“This presents an exciting opportunity for Three Lions fans to help form a new chapter in England’s history. The FA prides itself on being a modern, innovative organisation that strives to engage and inspire all generations of football fans. FIFA 19 is played by hundreds of millions of players daily with many selecting our male and female players so we have a great chance to engage with these as part of our efforts to continue to grow the game in England.” A representative of the Football Association said
The formation of the eLions virtual team is one of the country’s biggest esports endeavors, but it is far from being the only noteworthy one. Last year we also saw a unique collaboration between Premier League and EA to bring the competition to the virtual world in the shape of ePremier League.
The upcoming FIFA eNations Cup is one of the eight major EA Sports tournaments of the year. 16 teams will be invited to compete in FIFA 19 Ultimate Team on 13 April in the first edition of this new tournament.
