Outlast 2 in development for PC and current-gen consoles

A new installment in the critically acclaimed horror title of 2013 Outlast is confirmed to be in development at Red Barrels studio.

Co-founder Philippe Morin confirmed the news in a talk with “Bloody Disgusting” website and announced that Outlast 2 is in development after the shipping of original Outlast’s Xbox One version, after being released first for PC and then for PS4.

“After shipping the XB1 version of Outlast, we took some time to analyze our situation and we quickly realized we had at least another horror game in us,”

“So, yes, we are working on Outlast 2.”

Morin has mentioned that the team might go back to Mount Massive Asylum one day, but not for the sequel as the team is looking into implementing new ideas and themes through new characters and settings.

“We might go back to Mount Massive Asylum one day, but for now we have new ideas and themes we’d like to explore and we think we’re cooking up something special,”

As for the release date, he said that it’s gonna be a little while because of the team’s small number.

“We’re still a small indie studio (12 people), so we’ll need a little bit of time to ship our next game, but hopefully it will be worth it.”

“Part of the fun of playing a horror game is the sense of discovery and progressively understanding ‘wtf’ is going on. So, I’d rather not say too much at this point,”

So Outlast 2 is a thing, and is confirmed to come to all three formats at the same date this time around, PC, Xbox One and PS4.
