
Astro reintroduces Esports channel 808 under a new name next week
Popular Asian TV channel provider “Astro” announced its plans in reopening channel 808 as a dedicated 24/7 Esports TV under the new name of “eGG Network” (Every Good Game) in June.
The channel which is available in high-definition will be available to all Astro customers for free. Anyone with an Astro on the Go account can also access the channel from mobile devices. The channel’s rebranding will coincide with the start of the main event of the upcoming Manila Major Dota 2 Championship from June 7 to 12. eGG will feature three local and three international personalities – Pinda Rika, Danelie and Faraz Shababi.
“Today, eSports is a global phenomenon among the millennial and is expected to reach over 256 million fans by the of end year. Asia has been touted as the driving force contributing over 44% growth in eSports fans globally,” said Astro head of sports business Lee Chong Khay.
“We are seeing cities like Shanghai and Manila selected to host the coveted DOTA 2 Major, a first for Asia proving its significance to the eSports industry.”
The Manila Major is the third and last major event for the popular Dota 2 MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game before The International tournament.
