Comments made by Riot boss enrage fans of League of Legends
In an age where Dota 2 has a tournament with 20$ million in prize pool, League of Legends struggle to stay relevant at Esports level with its low prizes and not supporting pro players with a salary that suits their efforts. Recent comments made by Marc Merrill, Riot’s co-founder and boss only served to make things worse for the community.
Apparently, “Merrill” spoke to Reddit directly attacking Team SoloMid’s owner Andy “Reginald” Dinh who criticized him earlier. Merrill said that maybe Dinh should stop worrying when he makes millions of dollars in LoL while investing in other titles.
Marc later edited his post, but people including Dinh himself already had the original copy where he responded to it in a very detailed writing on his Twitter page, which you can read in full here. One of the former LCS owners Christopher “MonteCristo” Mykles also spoke on the matter saying that “no one is making millions at the LCS” and that Riot, making billions of dollars from League of Legends should invest more in the Esports side of things.
We will be waiting for official response from Riot Games. Meanwhile, you can tell us if you agree that Marc’s words were out of touch and shameful for a gaming company boss.
