Denmark took over DreamHack Open Valencia 2018
Sweden stole the spotlight last year, but DreamHack Open Valencia 2018 was home to Denmark this time around, after the final match results came in.
North have hoisted the trophy at DreamHack Open Valencia following a 2-0 win (Inferno 16-7, Mirage 16-9) over Luminosity in the grand final.
Luminosity chose Inferno to kick off the grand final, but things didn’t go according to plan towards the beginning, as they found themselves trailing 1-3 as Terrorists despite winning the pistol round.
Mirage followed and this time Luminosity were able to capitalize on a won pistol round, getting off to a 5-0 start as Terrorists. Markus “Kjaerbye” Kjærbye then saved a 1v3 attempt from NEKIZ, but Luminosity winning the following round meant low economy for North.
Nonetheless, the Danes made it work as Mathias “MSL”Lauridsen turned around a 3v5 situation with a quad-kill, which led to a five-round streak going his team’s way. The Brazilian side grabbed one as NEKIZ opened up the B bombsite, but North still went over to the offense with a one-round lead after securing the last two.
The Brazilian squad grabbed the second pistol round, but just like on Inferno, they weren’t able to follow it up as valde stopped them in their tracks with a quad-kill in a semi-eco round. North didn’t let the momentum slip away, only losing one more round before celebrating the victory at 16-9, 2-0.
