ELEAGUE receives nomination for Emmy sports award
It presented one of the most successful transitions of an entertainment media into other platforms, and now Turner’s ELeague has been nominated for a sports Emmy for Outstanding Studio Design/Art Direction.
Hosting two seasons of their own league as well as the most recent Major, ELeague have also hosted the Overwatch Open and are currently running their Street Fighter V Invitational. Having entered esports as “mainstream” outsiders, ELeague have been praised within the industry for their approach, delivering an authentic product for esports fans and TV viewers alike.
Not just esports figures and fans who have recognised Eleague’s quality, however. The show has now been nominated by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for a Sports Emmy in Outstanding Studio Design/Art Direction. ELeague will have tough competition to win the award, with the other nominees being NBC’s Games of the XXXI Olympiad, sports talk show Mike & Mike, Fox’s Super Bowl LI, and the UEFA Euro 2016 by ESPN.
The nomination is an honor in itself, a first for an esports show and yet another example of esports’ growing quality and recognition. The awards show will take place on May 9th.
