
Esports future to crossroads with VR says Valve
HTC Vive VR headset was released yesterday as the fruition of Valve and HTC’s work to compete with the likes of Oculus Rift and deliver a unique experience in virtual reality. With Valve owning two of the largest Esports titles out there it’s always interesting to hear what the company has to say about the future of both domains.
Valve’s writer and VR expert Chet Faliszek commented on Esports future with the VR, confirming that we’ll be seeing more Esports titles taking advantage of the VR world either to spectate or to actually have the players play inside them, making the whole thing more appealing to non-gamers.
“While we have The International and events where people are watching people play games, it is fun to watch someone play a VR game because they’re physically moving around in this space and making these motions that people can understand what’s happening,” Faliszek says. “It lets a broader group of people watch. It’s great spectator sport.”
In other news, Valve teased a new spectating feature for the Vive allowing viewers to immerse themselves in Dota 2 matches as well as having all the important statics close. Take a look below:
