Esports revenue to reach $1.1 billion by 2019 -report
Esports is the term used to describe professional gamers play video games in competition with others. No one would’ve thought this term would get so big that everyone is starting to adapt it as a major division of online entertainment, and here we are.
A report outed by one of the market’s research firms noted that the global esports market is expected to grow 43 percent from $325 million in 2015 to $463 million in 2016. By 2019, esports are expected to grow to $1.1 billion.
The audience for esports had also grown to 131 million enthusiasts (up 27.7 percent) and another 125 million occasional viewers who occasionally watch a match or two.
The 43 percent growth rate in 2016 is actually slower than the 67 percent growth rate in 2015, but the market size is getting bigger overall.
Biggest Esports consumers are China and South Korea currently, with many other regions catching up like North American countries and Europe.
