FaZe Clan tops ELEAGUE Premier 2017 group stage with impressive performance
It looks like the addition of two excellent talents to the already-great roster of FaZe Clan is starting to show its effect, with the NA team coming out on top of its group in the first day of ELEAGUE Premier televised CS: GO tournament
Both “GuardiaN” and “Olofmeister” contributed to the team’s great performance in Group A, were they defeated Natus Vincere and Renegades in consecutive games to finish atop the first of four groups to be played at the premier event in Atlanta, Georgia. FaZe’s victory over Natus Vincere was particularly impressive. While the first half ended with a relatively close 9-6 score in favor of FaZe, the second half was a far simpler affair. FaZe won seven consecutive rounds to sweep the half and take home a dominating 16-6 victory over GuardiaN’s ex-team. FaZe’s earlier win over Renegades was a bit closer, but they were never in any serious trouble as the team led by Finn “karrigan” Andersen managed to score a 16-9 victory.
The day was a bit less exciting for G2 Esports. The French super team were coming off of an impressive tournament victory at DreamHack Masters Malmö, but couldn’t get their desired win over Na’Vi. After taking a narrow first half lead against Na`Vi, G2 fell apart in the second half, losing 10 of 12 rounds to drop their opening game of the tournament.
G2 had the chance to get back in the tournament in the form of their last matchup against Renegades in a best-of-three elimination series, where they did overcome the Australians to win on two maps Mirage 16-9 and a surprisingly easy win on Nuke 16-2. G2 will now have a rematch against Natus Vincere in the group’s decider match to see who will join FaZe Clan in the playoffs.
