Fortnite tournaments to have $100 million in prize pools through 2019

Did you think Fortnite would die any time soon? This does not seem to be the case for Epic Games, which will offer a huge $100 million of prizes over the current year to professional players in the world’s most popular Battle Royale

Although 2018 has seen a good number of official tournaments and big prizes, 2019 will be the year we see Epic Games’ real investment in esports competitions as it has been planning since the beginning of Fortnite’s fame.

Today we have some new details about the future of the competitive game, with developers sharing what they will be working on this year in a series of publications on their official blog. The most noteworthy thing is the $ 100 million award for tournaments throughout 2019, which is a huge figure even when compared to the most successful online esports games such as Dota 2 and CS: GO.

The focus will be mainly on the Fortnite World Cup, which we learned was being prepared late last year. Epic Games has revealed its intention to host a world championship that brings together Fortnite players in a huge competition that will now start on April 13, according to new information.

To compete for the huge prize money, 100 individual players and 50 duo teams will have to pass the qualifying stage first, which will be held from 13 April to 16 June with an estimated total of $ 1 million for each qualifier with a total of $10 million for qualifiers prizes only. It does not end here however, as it gets even crazier when you know that the main event that will bring together the winners has an unprecedented $ 30 million prize pool, with players battling it out in the main event in New York, USA from 26-28 July.

On April 13, everyone will be seeing a new tab in the game that reads “Fortnite World Cup Open Qualifiers” where they can participate, provided they comply with the terms and conditions that require a clean record of the player from any fraud or bad behavior in addition to being older than 17 Year old, while players who are younger people will have to have their parent’s consent.

All players who qualify for the main event will also receive $ 50,000 for just attending the event, so there are no losers here. For other tournaments this year, Epic also plans to host several weekly events with a $ 1 million prize until the end of 2019. These competitions will be varied with diverse modes and rules and will be officially unveiled in the next few weeks.

To help organize the upcoming tournaments, Epic has made a promise to offer improved, carefully designed tools this time. Previous criticisms have been taken into account and improvements will soon be revealed as the Fortnite World Cup approaches, which will undoubtedly be the focus of all Fortnite professionals and teams from now on.

Will the victor be a Twitch celebrity, a professional player of an organization, or maybe even you, dear reader? We do not know yet, but we are thrilled to see the insane competition with the start of the qualifiers in April!
