Heroes of the Dorm 2017 will be exclusively streamed on Facebook
It looks like Facebook made its first major play into esports broadcasting for this year, acquiring the exclusive rights to Heroes of the Dorm as the first event of this size to be exclusive on the platform.
Heroes of the Dorm, Blizzard Entertainment’s collegiate Heroes of the Storm competition where teams fight for $500,000 worth in scholarships, will be streamed exclusively on Facebook for 2017. The tournament has been broadcast by ESPN for the past two years, with preliminary rounds on ESPN’s digital services before a televised final exclusively on ESPN2. Dorm was one of the first esports events to be broadcast on U.S. television.
The new Facebook deal makes it clear that the social media giant is really interested in getting into Esports with its Live platform to compete with the likes of Twitch, something that was hinted at last year.
