Hope is fading in Half-Life 3 after all original writers left Valve

Everyone was in shock when Marc Laidlaw, the lead writer of Half-Life series left Valve last year and fans started to panic. How could they not when the man behind the entirety of the story was off board? Small light of hope was still present as two other writers were still working under Valve’s, so this wouldn’t be the end of Half-Life right? We’ve got bad news.

Laidlaw’s right hand Erik Wolpaw had left the company by February and now, Chet Faliszek, aka the last original writer of the franchise. The news came in a report by GamesIndustrybiz to confirm that Half-Life 3 is almost never going to happen.

It’s not only worrisome for Half-Life as well. Faliszek worked on Portal as well with his pals, so now that’s in danger too. We don’t blame them for leaving as “Laidlaw” said he almost had nothing to do for years at the company’s headquarters, especially with everyone there focusing on Steam, CS: GO and Dota 2 among other projects.

Faliszek was one of the main reasons behind Valve’s VR jump as well, and he oversaw the project since its inception till the release of HTC Vive. The writer confirms that him leaving is nothing “dramatic” and that he just wants to shake things up a little bit in his life.

We don’t know whether or not Valve is officially out of the singleplayer market, as of course there can always be other writers to hire. Until that happens, however, it looks like Half-Life 3 is no where in sight for the next few years. Farewell, Freeman? At least we now have Darksider 3, I guess.
