Liquid among IEM Oakland PUBG Invitational first invites

IEM has announced a special tournament for the survival video game Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, the IEM Oakland PUBG Invitational.

The first four teams participating in the Intel Extreme Masters PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS Invitational have been revealed.

Set to take place in Oakland, California between November 18th and November 19th, the Intel Extreme Masters will host a $200,000 IEM Oakland PUBG Invitational tournament at the Oracle Arena.

A total of 20 teams will participate in a total of 8 matches across the 2 days, with points being distributed based on finishing position and kills per each match.

As one of the most popular games of 2017, PUBG has already surpassed titans such as Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in terms of concurrent player count on Steam, with millions of copies sold in just over six months of its ‘Early Access’ program.

IEM, one of the longest-running series of international esports tournaments since their inception in 2007, revealed that TeamSoloMid, Team Liquid, Noble Esports, and Luminosity Gaming have been the first four teams invited to compete at the event, with four players per roster.

While half of the teams are set to be invited, the other 10 will need to battle through sets of qualifiers in order to earn their spot in the tournament out of 320 prospective teams.
