League of Legends competitive scene is changing forever with this new decision

After months of speculations and guessing about this specific change hinted by League of Legends publisher and developer, Riot Games finally revealed how it’s going to be handling NA LCS, one of the two big western leagues out there.

The change in question here is the addition of fixed spots at the League, as teams will finally guarantee their future with the game thanks to revenue sharing with Riot and more. One effect of the new change, for example, is how the minimum salary of players will go up from $25,000 to $75,000, thanks to them getting their own share out of the NA LCS revenue.

Riot will also be giving shares to the 10 teams that reserve a spot in the league. Half of the share will be dictated by the team’s performance in the LCS while the other half is given equally to all teams. Teams can apply for a spot from now and until July, with final bidders announced in November. A spot in the newly announced LCS will cost $10 million dollars for current LCS teams, while new comers will pay an additional $3 million.

As for the Challenger Series, the place where teams got used to go down to as a step down from failing at LCS, it’s getting replaced with a new academy league where secondary teams for the 10 LCS spot owners would compete. This means no more climbing up to the big league, but also means that teams will guarantee never going down again. Of course, a team can still lose its place if it scores the lowest for five times in eight years, and more spots could be added later.

We can expect a similar change to the EU LCS later on, but no details were revealed as of now. The changes are sure going to satisfy a lot of team owners complaining that League of Legends wasn’t profitable enough to invest in, as pros now have a future to look up for.
