More than a billion person will know about Esports by the end of 2016

A new study that was published by the well-known research firm “Newzoo” revealed that the fame of Esports is reaching everywhere, and it’ll continue towards a billion of people by the end of 2016. The firm researched 16 markets around the world and found out that the awareness of Esports grew from 53.7 percent in 2015 to 65.7 in 2016, which is a huge leap that will translate in more recognition.

The $463 million market is picking pace faster than the initial studies expected in the last few years. The fame of competitive gaming blew up thanks to games like League of Legends and Dota 2, both of which are attracting thousands of new audience each day.

“Explosive growth in coverage from global and local media, an intensified effort from game publishers, as well as the launch of an abundance of new leagues and events have accelerated the global exposure of esports beyond initial expectations,” reads Newzoo’s latest report.

The 1.1 billion people number is for those who will be familiar with the term and what it means, but it doesn’t’ necessarily mean all of those are audience. In fact, 292 million people at least occasionally tune on for esports tournaments, 148 million of which are frequent watchers. These numbers are quite large by themselves and they will continue to rise even further in the coming years.
