NBA 76ers offering Esports players what they deserve
Mere month after buying Esports team, NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers are beginning their push to legitimize professional esports players through adjusting their training, providing developmental resources, and promoting mainstream engagement.
Developing their esports athletes as if they were traditional sports players is Step One for the 76ers. The players of Dignitas’ and Apex’s have access to new resources — sleep experts, nutritionists, and doctors — resources that have not yet taken root in the esports industry.
“In the past, we have not had access to anything like that. Coaches have only really come in the last few years. Sports psychology and nutrition, that’s only really starting to happen. This is a big reason for me for wanting to partner with the Sixers, having access to their ability and their knowledge in that respect is really important to me.” said Michael O’Dell, president of Team Dignitas.
What’s more, the players may utilize the team’s sports psychologists to bound over mental hurdles. The psychologists also help with and teach players how to cope with player burnout.
Esports scene is currently facing some difficulties reaching to mainstream, but steps like these are surely to go a long way in making it easier for players to reach the level of other athletes, thus increasing interest in them by the masses.
