New college joins eSports supporters and to create its own team
North America is leading the Esports recognition among educational institutions, as the new announcement from another college cements.
St. Clair College of Ontario, Canada is the latest to join supporters of Esports thanks to its new program that will be implemented in September. The college will form a team called “Saints Gaming” to represent its students in games like League of Legends, Overwatch, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Street Fighter V, Hearhstone and Super Smash Bros.
Try-outs for the team will take place at the college-hosted tournament, Saints Gaming Live, which will take place at St. Clair College’s SportsPlex from June 10th to 11th. The event will also feature free-play areas, a cosplay content and a vendor and artists alley. The program will build on the yearly eSports tournaments already held at the college, organised by the Information Technology Club, and create more opportunities for those looking for a future in the industry.
“Saints Gaming Live is an opportunity to expand on past success, help kick off a competitive eSports scene here at St. Clair College, and give local eSports an opportunity to rise to new heights.”
Any new incoming high school students to the college in September 2017 who take part in the tournament will receive a $500 tuition bursary, with the college hoping to eventually develop a scholarship program to support the eSports team.
