Overwatch number of players passes 25 million
Last year’s explosive competitive shooter set a lot of records, and it looks like the journey is still not over with Overwatch. Ever since the game was released on May 24 more and more people have been hopping abroad to try it out. Last time Blizzard checked in with fans the developer announced it had reached 20 million players across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
New reports suggest that with the start of the new year, Overwatch’s player count now sits at a whooping 25 million players/accounts. This is roughly 10 millions more than August last year when it was announced that the game has 15 million players, and it certainly shows how much growth the game has had. The numbers are of course for all three platforms.
“The world needs heroes, and over 25 million have answered the call,” a tweet from the Overwatch Twitter account reads. “The fight for the future isn’t over yet, though. Are you with us?”
Earlier this week, Blizzard launched Overwatch’s Year of the Rooster event to celebrate the Lunar New Year. A new brawl-style game mode called Capture the Rooster was introduced alongside a whole slew of new skins, emotes, and sprays.
