Rocket League is getting CS: GO-like crates system
It seems that we must get used to buying virtual cases and keys in competitive online games. After the system showed success in both Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Team Fortress 2 as well as other games, it looks like Rocket League is joining the party.
While decrypting and unpacking Rocket League game assests, intrepid Reddit user TheSgtPunishment has uncovered early signs of a new microtransaction system, with crates and keys to unlock them. Psyonix’ Jeremy Dunham responded quickly to cut off any negative reaction and explain that these are needed in order to fund future Rocket League competitions. Additionally, they’re to be purely cosmetic additions, as many microtransactions are these days, they won’t affect the current item drop system, and the entire system can be hidden from view with a simple checkbox.
The full announcement will be made next month at RLCS Live Finals. Rocket League is now available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
