SEGA is looking into remastering Shenmue 1 and 2
With the development of the long awaited Shenmue 3 game becoming a reality thanks to a Kickstarter campaign, interest in the franchise have sparked again. Even though there are many ways you can revisit the Dreamcast classics by yourself but the games do need some improvements to be enjoyable today. SEGA agrees on that and says an HD remaster might not be far away.
In the new episode of Youtube’s SEGA Central community manager Dan Sheridan spoke about the topic, saying that the company is currently looking into remastering the two previous titles in HD but only if it could represent the games in a way that preserves their legacy.
“Sadly, it’s not as simple as porting the games to current platforms as we will need to ensure that any HD remaster lives up to the quality of the original titles, And with games as immersive as Shenmue 1 and 2, there are further complications from licensed products that were included in the original games. That said, we’d love to do it and are currently investigating how to make it a reality.”
