Sound giant Dolby enters the Esports domain with Overwatch tournament
The audio giant has just announced its grand entrance into Esports with the upcoming Overwatch tournament held by Dolby itself, with a prize pool that is considered the largest for the game yet.
The open Dolby tournament takes place in 28-29th of May at eSports Arena in Santa Ana, California. The prize pool is to be $10.000 and the spectators entry is free. The event will be livestreamed on eSports Arena Twitch channel and will be hosted with Josh “AskJoshy” Sutherland and Ben “FishStix” Goldhaber, two of the best Overwatch casters yet.
This tournament is Dolby’s first venture into the realm of Esports. Overwatch is one of the titles using Dolby’S Atmos Technology so this might be one of the reasons why Dolby is holding a tournament for the game. The new technology allows sound to move in 3D space giving the Headphones users a feeling of being at a cinema.
Overwatch releases officially May 24 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Open Beta is currently available until May 10.
