South Korea continues to dominate with three more global wins at BlizzCon
BlizzCon 2016 held more value to the Esports crowd than ever. It doesn’t exist solely to show what Blizzard has in store for us anymore, as it’s now legitimately a competing ground for players from all over the world. What happened wasn’t really surprising, as South Korea returned once more to achieve dominance on a world level.
Five tournaments, four of which were World championships and three of them went to the Korean side. The North American early win at World of Warcraft Arena was a mere kickstart of BlizzCon competitions, and from that moment on South Korea came fighting for every single tournament. While “Che0nsu” only managed to reach the semi finals at Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm World championship, StarCraft II World tournament and Overwatch World Cup went all to the Asians.
There’s one distinguishable feature that all of the winners had, and that is the extreme skill and strategic thinking that Koreans have. Ballistix came on top at Heroes of the Storm, StarCraft II 1st place went to Byun “Byun” Hyun-woo, and the SK national team won the first ever global Overwatch tournament winning 4-0 not dropping a single map to the Russians in the finals.
Will this dominance go on for years to come? Are we about to witness a worthy opponent soon enough? Esports are still young, so answers for these questions are to be answered in a couple of years sure enough.
