Team Dignitas dismantles Overwatch roster causing concerns between fans
Team Dignitas organization has announced yesterday that the Overwatch roster is no more, leading many to believe there’s something going on in the game’s competitive scene that’s pushing teams away from it.
Marcel “Veinless” Lehmann, Elvinas “Evokje” Padegimas, Patrick “Wat7” Marwal, Jose Antonio “BromaS” Ramos Gonzales, Joshua “ToxikeN” Campos and Jiri “LiNkz” Masalin will go back to be freelancers, as their time with Dignitas comes to a mysterious end.
You’d think that by reaching Europe’s Overwatch PIT Championship’s third place the team would have guaranteed a spot in the scene, but it sadly wasn’t the case. So why are teams slowly moving away from the game? Fingers are pointing at Overwatch League, the only competition that can ensure the game’s future but with insane amounts of money required to participate and no guarantees that the money would be ever made back in the first few years.
Red Reserve, Denial, compLexity, Splyce and even TSM all withdrew from Overwatch scene due to mysterious causes. Activision Blizzard is simply asking for way too much that these smaller teams can’t bother to invest wholeheartedly. A solution must be found quick, or else the game’s competitive future will be in danger.
