This guy feared losing his data so he left his console on for 20 years
In a story that we don’t hear often, one of twitter users by the name of “Wanikun” is claiming that he left his SNES or Super Famicom in Japan running for over 20 years for the sole purpose of saving his progress in a game.
Wanikun kept his SNES running ever since “Umihara Kawase” released on it in 1994, in fear of losing his progress he connected his console to a power generator and maintained it on for all of this time.
“I’m pretty sure that my first generation Umihara Kawase that has been running in my SNES for twenty years has been operated for more than 180.000 hours. I’ll lose my progress probably if it doesn’t receive electricity”
This will be hard to believe, but it is what this Japanese player is claiming with the tweet he posted that gained international recognition as an act of total dedication and craziness at the same time.
ちなみに、20年以上SFCの電源を入れっぱなしにしてある初代 #海腹川背 は、稼働時間は 18万時間を突破しているものと思われます。
