Turkish CS: GO squad Space Soldiers disbands
It seems that the journey of the Middle East’s most prominent representative on the international CS: GO scene has come to an end with the disbanding of the Turkish roster of Space Soldiers to go their different ways after differences with the team management
The announcement came through the account of Can “XANTARES” Dortkardes on Twitter, stating that he is no longer in Space Soldiers anymore. It is not only finished for him, but Cagatay “DESPE” Sedef, Engin “ngiN” Kor, Ahmet “paz” Karahoca, Bugra “Calyx” Arkin, Engin “MAJ3R” Kupeli and coach Canpolat “hardstyle” Yildiran. In short, Space Soldiers seems to have lost its entire crew.
““It was a great pleasure to be a part of this organization,” XANTARES said in the announcement. “However, our long-term plans did not match with the Space Soldiers organization… We players announce our separation from the organization.”
Apparently, the tension between the organization and its players goes back a few months. In fact, the decision to disengage was expected, especially with the removal of all the branding of Space Soldiers from the accounts of players on social networking sites for some time. When the players were asked about the incident at last ESL One Belo Horizonte event, they refrained from answering, rather than commenting on the situation.
Analysts state the reasons to be related to long-term contracts, low salaries, and no buyouts. These factors, in addition to the dwindling of the Turkish lira since the beginning of this year, may have led the players to reach a level of dissatisfaction which ultimately led to what happened to them.
This year, Space Soldiers won the DreamHack Open Austin 2018, but has failed to reach advanced positions in a number of other tournaments since then, including FACEIT Major: London, where they were unable to hold against other international teams participating in the event.
