University of Utah introduces its own esports varsity program
University of Utah has revealed some details on its esports varsity program, joining numeral other colleges around the US in adapting Esports and competitive gaming.
The program, called Utah eSports, will let players compete on League of Legends, the university has confirmed, with other competitive games to be announced shortly. The program will be sponsored by the university’s Entertainment Arts & Engineering (EAE) video game development program.
“EAE is proud to elevate competitive gaming at the U. We think it is a great opportunity for our students, the vibrant gaming community here on campus and Utah fans in general to come together and watch these players hone their skills and play competitively to represent our school.” Robert Kessler, director of EAE, said.
Utah will join a number of other US universities who already have varsity eSports programs, but it will be the first from a Power Five athletics conference school to offer such a thing, though university staff hope others will follow.
