Virtus.Pro eliminated by Renegades at the conclusion of DreamHack Masters Malmo first day

Despite coming 3rd at last month’s PGL Major Krakow, Virtus.Pro struggling was apparent throughout the year with multiple disappointments and few and far in between wins. Today, it was Renegades who managed to eliminate the Polish team out of DreamHack Masters Malmo event.

With both Astralis and Natus Vincere through to the winners’ match, Group B competitions went on with the best-of-one elimination, putting Virtus.pro facing Renegades. Led by Karlo “USTILO” Pivac, the Australian team jumped out to a 6-0 lead on the Terrorist side as Virtus.pro looked their worse trying to stop their opponents’  attacks. With Jarosław “pashaBiceps” Jarząbkowski and Filip “NEO” Kubski nowhere to be seen, the Polish team switched to a more aggressive style, only to lose more rounds.

Renegades kept on pushing to 9-0, forcing Virtus.pro to call a tactical pause. A double AWP setup from the Poles failed as Renegades were simply too strong for Virtus.pro. With the economy control and the momentum on their side, the Australians closed out the half with a stunning 14-1 lead.  The Polish team still won few close rounds, but a 1v2 clutch from USTILO sealed their fate in the competition at 16-7.

Meanwhile, Cloud9 and B.O.O.T-d[S] faced each other in Group A’s elimination match and it proved to be an easy win for the Americans, scoring 16-2 against the DreamHack Masters Malmo wildcards and eliminating them from the competition.

With that comes the conclusion to Masters first day. Matches will resume tomorrow with deciding stage where Cloud9, Renegades, Astralis, SK Gaming and more face off.
