Will Smith makes huge investment in Esports alongside other celebrities

You may know from his role in the upcoming “Aladdin” movie as the funny blue Genie, or from one of his previous great roles such as I Am Legend or I, Robot, you would never have thought you’d see the name of Will Smith and esports in one sentence together before

The “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” has revealed that he is part of a huge $46 million investment deal in the Asian esports organization, GenG, a deal that included Japanese football star Keisuke Honda along with other names such as Dennis Wong, Michael Zeisser, David Rogier.

Both Smith and Honda will play an important role in supporting the organization’s current managing advisor, Chris Bosh, in the organization’s commercial and creative efforts, with an emphasis on expanding esports in Honda’s native country, Japan.

“Esports is still not big in Japan, but we see tremendous growth there and around the world, which is very positive.” Said Honda, “We decided to invest in GenG because of their incredible team and grand vision to become a leader in the space. We truly look forward to working with Gen.G to boost the esports industry around the world ”

GenG or “Generation Gaming” was established in 2017 as KSV Esports, but was renamed later with a new vision in bridging the gap between the East and West with regard to esports. That name became known last year thanks to their PUBG team’s brilliant performance at PGI Championship, as well as being the father company of the Seoul Dynasty Overwatch team, and other teams in  League of Legends, Fortnite and Apex Legends.

Will Smith is the latest Hollywood figure to join the field of esports, with celebrities increasingly interested in investing in this business of the future, such as Jennifer Lopez and more.
