Kings and others reach ZEN League S2 finals
Some of the surprise news of the day appeared in the second season of the ZEN League for the shooting game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Kings and MVP PK have topped their respective groups as first seeds, and have successfully qualified for the Season 2 LAN playoffs for ZEN League in Sydney, Australia.
The recent announcement of the Asia Minor Championship caused ESL Australia to reschedule their event, which was originally set to take place at PAX Melbourne from October 27-29. The Australian organizer has decided to push back the APAC finals to November 17-18 at the ESL Sydney studios.
Another change to the league was made one day before the online regular season was expected to end, where only the first seeds of each group—Kings and MVP PK—would automatically secure their spot to the Season 2 Finals. The remaining two spots would be determined by a best-of-three series between the second and third seeds of each group, with the higher seed obtaining a 1-0 map advantage heading into the clash.
Tainted Minds comfortably claimed the second seed for the Oceanic group with a 6-4 map record. However, a tiebreaker occurred for the third seed, with Athletico and Grayhound tied in maps (5-5), head-to-head and in points (15). ESL Australia has revealed the two teams will resolve the matter through a best-of-three series, with the winner earning the third ANZ seed and another best-of-three, tug-of-war against Yaman “yam”Ergenekon’s crew for a spot in the playoffs.
Heading into the Asian group, Season 1 champions Recca fell short against MVP PK for the auto-berth, after a 2-0 head-to-head loss to the Koreans during the season, despite equal map wins and points. This meant the Indonesians, accompanied by a 1-0 map advantage, would have to fight for the last playoffs spot versus 5POWER, who managed to grab the third seed.
