One modder managed to recreate No Man’s Sky inside DOOM in three weeks
Modders know no limits, even if those limits are procedurally generated.
One DOOM modder managed to get the whole world of No Man’s Sky inside the classical DOOM game in three weeks, and what makes it more impressive is that he didn’t even play NMS himself.
Despite the constant criticism to No Man’s Sky many have praised it for being the first game to implement a universe that is fully generated by the computer. The idea on paper looks revolutionary and huge but its execution might be a bit easier than what you think. Modder “Robert Prest” proved that by doing an exact replica of the game using this outdated engine and calling his work “No Man’s Guts”.
Everything you see is randomly generated from the sky, to the ground, to the aliens, and you can even mod the latter to wear the face of anyone you like. Even your own if the fancy so takes you. You can mine for resources with a laser, fly about with a jetpack, take a stab at engaging in conversations with alien races, it’s all there. Even the center of the universe. You can check the mod and more through the official website here.
